I made it through my long class day by doing the Valentine's lesson and asking the ice breaker questions--both activities the kids enjoy while they end up saying really funny things!
Caitlin and her friend Angela came to Rennes last night, and we had a delicious dinner at the Crêperie Ste Mélaine, which is the best in town, or so I hear. I believe it after tasting organic cider, a vegetarian galette, and a crepe with chocolate, coconut flakes, and coconut ice cream... Yum! We lingered there for over two hours--a perfect French evening. To cap off the night, we watched the Johnny Depp version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but the other two fell asleep within the first hour, so I'll have to finish it today.
Why did we go to bed before midnight on a Friday? Because we got up at 8am to visit the market! Well, it actually took us about an hour and a half to get up and drink coffee before we left... So at 9:30ish, we braved the drizzle to go shopping. Other times that I've visited the market, I've waited until 11ish, so the streets are packed with people. At nine and under a grey sky, there wasn't a crowd and I really enjoyed it! Angela was looking for Breton caramel, so we found some at a bakery stall. I spotted mini-muffins and had to have some--pistachio, caramel, chocolate, chocolate chip, and nut!
After that, I gave my usual walking tour of the old city, and we ended up at my place around 11. They just left to catch a bus to Mont St Michel for the afternoon, and I cooked myself lunch and got back into bed to finish the movie. I'm still sleepy from three mornings of getting up in the 8 o'clock hour--how am I going to readjust to having real classes or a real job?! France time is ruining me! Lol.

Business as usual
Quick life update for my faithful followers:
Wednesday was a Vitré outing to hang out with Caitlin--I saw her open her Christmas presents in her newly returned suitcase that AirFrance lost over the holidays! I got to eat chili, rice crispie treats, and chicken nuggets with fries while watching Teen Mom. It was like being a kid in America for an afternoon :)
Two early 8:30 workdays were draining for Thursday and today... One of the teachers has the flu, so I got out two hours early today (good for me, horrible for her!). I did, however, spend another extra hour at school being interviewed by the Graphic Industries class for the school paper! It should be exciting to see what the article ends up being like... They asked questions in English, so hopefully it won't be translated back to French awkwardly. They're even going to take my photo for it next week! I'll be sure to share it all with you when it is printed :)
I've also been talking with Ma about when the family is going to visit. Remember, folks, I'm on vacation here February 26 to March 14 and then April 23 to June 7! (Though, PA and I were just talking about visiting Prague for a few (cold!) days at the end-of-Feb/beginning-of-March part!) Will let you know how things work out, of course. All are welcome!
Tonight, I'm meeting up with a few assistants for dinner and movies. Caitlin is staying over so we can go to the market and/or Irish brunch at Apple Pie. As long as I can sleep a lot this weekend, I'll be happy.

A weekend in Brittany
Friday evening was mellow. I had two small convo groups at school with graphic design kids. Laetitia made sure to give me a good mix of shy/outgoing, good/not-so-good in each group so that we could really keep a conversation going. Basically, I learned that if you bring up movies, music, or shopping, kids will talk!
Laetitia was nice enough to give me a ride home. She also offered her car next week for an Ikea run to get a table, lamp, and clothes rack to furnish my apartment. I said I was considering visiting St. Malo on the beach for a day, and she said that she was going to neighboring Dinard to visit a friend, so she could drive me up there too!
At home, I got some organizing done, hung up a curtain in my bedroom, read, watched ER, and chatted online with some friends. I was supposed to go to a dinner party, so I bought bread, cheese, and wine, but it was cancelled soon after. So I continued my activities into the night—reading Guns, Germs and Steel and French Cosmo, playing online, eating my recently purchased cheese and bread, and making waffles for entertainment. I also watched the people outside my window for awhile; I live on a main meeting square, so there are always tons of people gathering there. At one point, a group of people banging on pots and drums showed up with actual TORCHES!!! I still have no idea what that was about, but I’ll put the photographic proof in my album for you to review. I also skyped with mom and dad and planned a Halloween party at my place. The Monday after Halloween is a holiday here, so people have no excuse not to come!
Then, I had a solid ten hours of sleep. I think it was the best full night of sleep I’ve had since I got to France. Since I actually moved into my apartment, I am always running out to get things for the place. I have been so tired this week, so a night of calm and sleep was probably a good idea.
So this morning I checked out the market in Place des Lices, a three minute walk from my apartment. It is the second largest market in all of France! You can get produce, meat, fish, bread, cheese, flowers, Chinese food, pastries—everything you could want every Saturday. I looked around a bit and ended up buying flowers for Pierre-Antoine’s mom and sisters. I’m heading to Vitré in a few hours to meet the rest of the family and see PA’s basketball game tomorrow morning.
